Fair Earth Nursery started in 2010 as an extension of Prestige Landscape Services (PLS), a program providing employment for persons with developmental disabilities at Work Training Center (WTC). At the time, PLS was located on Fair Street in Chico, CA. When Work Training Center sold its property on Fair Street in 2020 to the Jesus Center, the nursery was moved to new offices on Park Avenue. We are currently co-located there with our sister business, Inside Out Landscaping & Janitorial. Into 2023, we'd kept our "Fair Street" name to honor who we are, where we came from, and our ongoing mission to support persons with developmental disabilities. In 2023, we rebranded the nursery as Fair Earth Nursery, which removes location confusion and supports our vision of the nursery's status as a garden center for everybody.
Prestige Nursery was created to grow starter plants to support the garden fill-in, replacement planting, and installation needs of Prestige Landscape Services.
From a small initial greenhouse, the business expanded to include a second, much larger, greenhouse, and a retail sales program. Further, Prestige Nursery served as a work experience program for clients of Work Training Center, with several individuals graduating to other commercial nurseries in Butte County.
When federal policies moved away from specialized work programs for individuals with developmental disabilities, Prestige Nursery reinvented itself as a full commercial enterprise operating under the name Fair Street Nursery.
Fair Earth Nursery is a business arm of Work Training Center. It sells plants and heirloom vegetable starters to the public while supporting the horticultural needs of Inside Out Landscaping & Janitorial. The nursery prioritizes employing individuals with developmental disabilities and contributes 100% of its profits to support the mission of Work Training Center.
